Sixth Form Football Match Report
‘The 6th form boys had their last football fixture against SLBS yesterday afternoon. Unfortunately it was not the result that their efforts and commitment deserved over the course of the year, with a 5 – 1 defeat.
The boys had a lot of attacking promise with some fine saves made by the SLBS goalkeeper from efforts from Jack Dawson, Miles Clayton hitting the bar from a free kick and Brendan Foottit having his long range effort chalked off for a handball. SLBS counter attacked at speed and scored a few early goals. Captain Seth Rice scored a stunning free kick to bring the score to 3-1. SLGGS conceded two before half time to make the score 5-1. The second half proved to be less eventful with both defences coming out on top. Pietro Mari played very well at right left back and was ably supported by solid performances from Charlie Harding and Jackie Fok. James Williams put in a lot of effort in the midfield and there were two debutants in Alex Steele and Henry Boys.
The game was played in good spirits from both teams and with probably the largest (and loudest) crowd I’ve seen at a school football game.
The boys have been a pleasure to coach this season and although the Year 13s will surely be missed there is plenty of promise with a core group of year 12s in Henry Boys, goalkeeper Ben Goodfellow, Charlie Harding, Jack Dawson, Saugat Sunwar and player of the season James Paton-Smith continuing with the team for next year. Special thanks should go to captain Seth Rice for his commitment throughout the year and also to Miles Clayton for all his organisation of the team both on and off the pitch.’
