Huge congratulations to Rebecca and Abby Smith in Year 12 who recently had work selected for the John Downtown Art Exhibition which was held at Maidstone County Hall. The exhibition showcased a range of artwork created by many talented young artists across the county. Abby did exceptionally well achieving a prestigious Silver Award.
The John Downton Award for Young Artists is an annual exhibition which encourages and celebrates the creativity of Kent's young artists. This award is hosted by Kent County Council on behalf of the John Downton Trust. The exhibition commemorates the life and work of John Downton, the celebrated Kent artist, poet and philosopher. It is open to students, aged 11 - 18, from schools and colleges across Kent.
For another opportunity to view a selection of works from the exhibition, these will then be shown at the Turner Contemporary between 2nd December 2014 and 4th January 2015.
Abby was also one of four artists from the school, (along with Daisy Watson, Greta Gilham-Wright and Nathalie Bland), to have her work selected for the celebrated National Students' Art Exhibition which was held at the Mall Galleries in London before the summer. Her portrait was also awarded RBA Scholar status, which means that it will automatically be selected for a major exhibition in London in March.
