Sports News and Results
The Year 8 Netball Team came second in the District Tournament. Winning all of their matches apart from the one against Kent College (5-1). Throughout the tournament they played 9 games, scoring a total of 56 goals and conceding just 7! The team have worked extremely hard all season and have developed some really strong partnerships. I hope they continue to build upon this next season. The team on the day were Daisy Redford, Olivia Brooks-Merino, Beth Langdale, Lara Hulbert, Poppy Lintott, Hannah Smith, Chenxi Wang, Amelie Hull, Tilly Parsons and Chloe Sands. A special mention needs to go to Maddie Hull who has been a fabulous GA all season but unfortunately missed the tournament due to illness. A huge thank you to the Year 9 Sports Leaders who ran the Year 8 inter-house netball tournament on Tuesday. Their level of planning and preparation beforehand was excellent and on the day they continued to impress the PE department! They were extremely organised and efficient, demonstrating a high level of knowledge when officiating and scoring. Their enthusiasm and commitment to ensuring Year 8 had a wonderful morning should be commended. Congratulations to all of you on a great event. Miss Foord
The U14 basketball team played Community College Whitstable (CCW) last night and after an enthralling drawn match, the girls took the edge to get the win in the shoot-out. This was their third game of the season and proved to be their toughest test to date, with CCW going into the match also unbeaten. After a fairly even bout, the scores ended 16-16, with some great shooting from Georgia Love and Imogen Davis, fantastic drives forward from Esther Kendrick White, Sofia Bashir, and Emily Metivier, as well as strong defence from Hannah Smith and Emilia Stokes to keep the CCW score low. The shoot-out was level before a winning basket from Hannah Smith. The team were Emelia Stokes, Imogen Davis, Emily Metivier, Hannah Smith, Esther Kendrick White, Sofia Bashir and Georgia Love. The whole team showed great character, determination and teamwork against strong opposition. Well done girls! Miss Harris and Mr Baldwin.
The Year 9 basketball team had their first match of the season Tuesday at Barton Court. It was an incredibly steep learning curve for the girls as they had not experienced a full size court in an actual sports hall before and the score most certainly reflected that during the first few minutes of the game! By half time following much interjection from the side line together with the pure grit and determination being demonstrated on court, the team started to come together. The second half saw some fantastic drives at basket by Sofia Bashir and Emily Metivier, consistent pressure in defence by Immi Davis with Georgia Love and Esther White combining well in attack. Emelia Stokes took on anyone who came within 10 metres of her and Kaddy Barnes, Jess Hughes, Issy Pottage and Andola Crowley literally hit the ground running when they were substituted onto court. The final score was 28-22 to Langton - a well deserved win against a strong Barton Court side. Well done to the girls! Miss Creaney
The hard work that the Year 7 team have put into their netball finally paid off on Thursday with a win against Canterbury High. Iona Lester and Leonie Goate who have been practising their shooting at lunchtimes put up some super shots and their success rate was very high managing to score 6 goals between them. Ella Stephenson, Erin Shenton and Kate Blackman linked beautifully together through the centre court driving forward onto the ball with real confidence. Anna Murphy and Martha Rolison gave the Canterbury High shooters a really hard time in the goal circle as they took so many interceptions to turn the ball around. Molly Houlihan took to the court for the second quarter and demonstrated some super spatial awareness with her placement of the ball into space. Ellie Upton well and truly came into her own when playing goal shooter alongside Iona. The ball was being fired between the two of them which was very exciting to watch. Well done girls, one very happy Miss Creaney - finally!

Year 8 Rounders District Tournament
Having won all of our friendly fixtures throughout the term we were travelling to Archbishops School for the District Tournament undefeated. We started off very strong winning all of our matches in our section through some excellent fielding and clever batting to make it through to the final. The final was against Barton Court who gave us the toughest competition all season. It was an extremely exciting match with us winning by only one rounder. Well done to all the girls who have shown such commitment to training all season. Year 8 District Champions!!
Year 9 Rounders District Tournament
The Year 9 rounders team were runners up in the District Tournament. The team played really well throughout the tournament winning their first 3 matches by convincing margins. They played St Edmunds in match 4 losing by two rounders, so It all came down to the last game against QEs. QEs batted first and came away with 7 rounders but unfortunately when the buzzer sounded to end our innings we were on 6.5. Throughout the season there has been some superb batting and fielding by... Chiara Mesquita and she didn’t disappoint in the district tournament. Katie Daughters has perfected her backhand which ensures her a rounder each time. Maddie Smith and Hana Williams have an excellent partnership as backstop and first base, Maddie’s quick reactions and fast throw combined with Hana’s ability to know where the post is without looking, ensured that we got many players out on first base. Amy Walsh bowled consistently in all of the matches to ensure we didn’t give away too many half rounders. Well done to the whole team! (Chiara Mesquita, Flos Sutton, Katie Daughters, Jenny O’rourke, Hana Williams, Rosie Walsh, Amy Walsh, Maddie Smith, Maddie Bourner, Gaby Alankiewicz, Megan Thomas) Mrs Newman

Year 9 Basketball Match
The Year 9 team played against Herne Bay High at home on Tuesday after school and had their second convincing win of the season 40-16.
Megan Thomas was a new addition to the team and her contribution to defence was most valuable. The team as a whole worked tirelessly throughout the game turning the ball over on so many occasions through their wonderful competitive spirit. It is an absolute pleasure to look after the bench and organise team substitutions as the girls are most selfless and readily come on and off the court sharing their time without question.
A very big thank you to Mr Baldwin once again for refereeing and coaching the team.
Sports Hall Athletics
The Year 7 and 8 athletes travelled to Herne Bay High on Wednesday for the first round of the Sports Hall Athletics competition.
The Year 7 team enjoyed their first experience of athletics at Simon Langton Girls' and they did themselves proud. Jenny Swandale won the distance event most convincingly and the relay team consisting of Maddy Hull, Lara Hulbert, Chenxi Wang and Chloe Sands gave us the most exciting race of the afternoon. The Abbey school gave the girls a real run for their money with Maddy, Lara and Chenxi on their heels right up until Chloe took over the baton and streaked away. All four girls ran their absolute hearts out! Poppy Lintott, Daisy Redford, Jenny Swindale and Nicole Reichhelm won the obstacle race and gave some strong performances in the field events. Year 7 Netball Report
The first game of the season took place tonight at Herne Bay High School for our Year 7 team. Having to pick a team so early on in the season during our very first training session was very difficult as there were so many girls in attendance.
The team began the match full of excitement and nerves in equal measure and were up by just two goals in the first quarter. As the game continued the standard of play improved considerably and the team settled down to play some super netball to win 18 - 3.
Hannah White was unstoppable playing GA scoring most of the 18 goals and was supported so very well by Carla Reid at GS. The centre court was completed dominated by Olivia Brooks - Merino, Daisy Redford (captain) and Hannah White. Kiara Corbell at GD ensured that the Herne Bay shooters were put under a great deal of pressure together with Yasmin Bennett at GK. Chloe Sands demonstrated how multi talented she is by starting out as a shooter and finishing the match playing an incredibly feisty defender. Every girl gave their absolute all and clearly have so much potential as individual players.
I look forward to training next Tuesday after school to catch up with the girls that attended training tonight. Please be assured that everyone will be considered for our next match.
Thank you to the parents that came along tonight to support the team; it was lovely to have you there!
