The Year 8 team had a fabulous day of netball on Thursday at Rainham School for Girls. With so many talented girls to choose from team selection was very challenging and it took most of the tournament before we found the the strongest combination out on court. To say that the girls were flexible and accommodating to all my demands of where I wanted them to play would be an understatement! Beth Ford transferred from GS to GK and played an absolute blinder and Martha Rolison, our usual GK, ended up playing both a super WD and C. A special mention must go to Mrs Murphy for umpiring for us today. The girls appreciated her high standard of umpiring and positive comments that she showered on them at the end of every game. We look forward to trying out our new found positions against Herne Bay High on Monday. Miss Creaney
The Year 7 and 8 indoor sports hall athletics teams travelled to Medway Park Gillingham to represent the district in the county finals. Both teams displayed such depth of talent which resulted in them being placed first in the county out of 18 schools. A very big thank you to Mrs Aitken for taking the girls (I was with the under 14 basketball team) and keeping me updated all afternoon of how each race was going!! Bring on the summer term and the athletics season! Miss Creaney
On Wednesday 21st November 10 girls set out to Redbridge Sports Centre to represent Kent in the Tier 4 Regional Hockey competition. They played 6 matches against schools from throughout the East Region. The first match started slowly with no goals scored in the first half despite SLGGS having all the possession. However, this was remedied in the last 5 minutes with an influx of 4 goals. Result 4-0 win. Throughout the day the girls played superbly well as a team creating many chances. Only 2 goals were conceded in 6 matches which was a testament to the team’s hard work.
Overall the team scored 25 goals, won 5 out of the 6 games which resulted in us returning as Regional Champions.
The Year 9/10 athletics team took part in their second friendly district fixture at Simon Langton Boys' School last week. Kings School, St Edmunds and Barton Court all fielded a team and we were very pleased to have won most convincingly by 40 points. The A and B relay teams came first and second beating all other schools A teams - what strength in depth we have!
The Year 8 and 10 rounders teams played Herne Bay High and The Abbey school in their first game of the season. Both teams played very well and secured wins. The final scores for Year 8 were 11 to 5 and a half for a win against HBH and 7 to 4 and a half to secure the win against The Abbey School.
Year 10 just had one game against Herne Bay High and won 13 and a half to 9 and a half. Well done to all of the students involved. Miss Foord
The Year 8 Netball Team came second in the District Tournament. Winning all of their matches apart from the one against Kent College (5-1). Throughout the tournament they played 9 games, scoring a total of 56 goals and conceding just 7! The team have worked extremely hard all season and have developed some really strong partnerships. I hope they continue to build upon this next season. The team on the day were Daisy Redford, Olivia Brooks-Merino, Beth Langdale, Lara Hulbert, Poppy Lintott, Hannah Smith, Chenxi Wang, Amelie Hull, Tilly Parsons and Chloe Sands. A special mention needs to go to Maddie Hull who has been a fabulous GA all season but unfortunately missed the tournament due to illness. Well done girls you have been a pleasure to work with this season and you should be proud of all of your achievements. Mrs Newman
Here are our Senior Netball Team who are now 'District Champions'. They have had an amazing season and really do work so hard in training and in matches. Their last two games of the season will be against Kent College and St Lawrence. Miss Foord
A huge thank you to the Year 9 Sports Leaders who ran the Year 8 inter-house netball tournament on Tuesday. Their level of planning and preparation beforehand was excellent and on the day they continued to impress the PE department! They were extremely organised and efficient, demonstrating a high level of knowledge when officiating and scoring. Their enthusiasm and commitment to ensuring Year 8 had a wonderful morning should be commended. Congratulations to all of you on a great event. Miss Foord
The U14 basketball team played Community College Whitstable (CCW) last night and after an enthralling drawn match, the girls took the edge to get the win in the shoot-out. This was their third game of the season and proved to be their toughest test to date, with CCW going into the match also unbeaten. After a fairly even bout, the scores ended 16-16, with some great shooting from Georgia Love and Imogen Davis, fantastic drives forward from Esther Kendrick White, Sofia Bashir, and Emily Metivier, as well as strong defence from Hannah Smith and Emilia Stokes to keep the CCW score low. The shoot-out was level before a winning basket from Hannah Smith. The team were Emelia Stokes, Imogen Davis, Emily Metivier, Hannah Smith, Esther Kendrick White, Sofia Bashir and Georgia Love. The whole team showed great character, determination and teamwork against strong opposition. Well done girls! Miss Harris and Mr Baldwin.
The Year 9 basketball team had their first match of the season Tuesday at Barton Court. It was an incredibly steep learning curve for the girls as they had not experienced a full size court in an actual sports hall before and the score most certainly reflected that during the first few minutes of the game! By half time following much interjection from the side line together with the pure grit and determination being demonstrated on court, the team started to come together. The second half saw some fantastic drives at basket by Sofia Bashir and Emily Metivier, consistent pressure in defence by Immi Davis with Georgia Love and Esther White combining well in attack. Emelia Stokes took on anyone who came within 10 metres of her and Kaddy Barnes, Jess Hughes, Issy Pottage and Andola Crowley literally hit the ground running when they were substituted onto court. The final score was 28-22 to Langton - a well deserved win against a strong Barton Court side. Well done to the girls! Miss Creaney
The hard work that the Year 7 team have put into their netball finally paid off on Thursday with a win against Canterbury High. Iona Lester and Leonie Goate who have been practising their shooting at lunchtimes put up some super shots and their success rate was very high managing to score 6 goals between them. Ella Stephenson, Erin Shenton and Kate Blackman linked beautifully together through the centre court driving forward onto the ball with real confidence. Anna Murphy and Martha Rolison gave the Canterbury High shooters a really hard time in the goal circle as they took so many interceptions to turn the ball around. Molly Houlihan took to the court for the second quarter and demonstrated some super spatial awareness with her placement of the ball into space. Ellie Upton well and truly came into her own when playing goal shooter alongside Iona. The ball was being fired between the two of them which was very exciting to watch. Well done girls, one very happy Miss Creaney - finally!
The Year 10 Netball Team played their second game against St Anselms on Tuesday 3rd October. The whole team played extremely well and the final score was 27-0 to us! Well done all! Miss Foord
The Year 9 Netball Team beat Archbishops 7 - 3 and The Abbey school 17 - 0. Well Done Girls! - Mrs Newman
The Year 8 Netball Team played Archbishops and St Anselms on Tuesday evening. Winning both games 21-0 and 19-3. The team had two new additions (Poppy Lintott and Tilly Parsons) who both played very well as GK and C. An excellent partnership between Hannah Smith (GS) and Maddie Hull (GA) ensured that we had plenty of successful attempts at scoring. All of the team played well and were pleased with their continuing success. Mrs Newman
The Year 9 Netball Team travelled to Herne Bay High to play their first two games of the season. They played Spires first winning 8-0, going on to beat Herne Bay High 11-4. The game was really close in the first half with each school taking it in turns to score. But we came through stronger in the second half. An excellent start to the season, well done girls - Mrs Newman
