Clerk to the Governors

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, self-motivated and skilled individual to fulfil the role of Clerk to the Governors for the equivalent of 10 hours per week, term-time only (working hours can be flexible). The successful candidate will need to be educated to A Level standard or equivalent and possess sound administration skills and experienced at taking minutes. This post will be paid on the Kent Scheme pay range 7, £11.70 per hour and the annual salary will be £5,114 (pro rata to £22,581).

The post holder’s responsibility will be to take on the role of Clerk to the Governors and to support the Governing Body and Headteacher in all aspects of this role including liaising with the Chair of Governors and Committees to set agendas, collate information for meetings, clerk meetings, record and produce accurate minutes.

The successful candidate should have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to handle confidential issues with discretion. They will also need to be able to work under pressure and use their own initiative. A flexible nature and attention to detail is paramount and a professional attitude is essential. They must also be flexible with working arrangements to ensure attendance at all governor meetings. These usually take place between 5.30/6.00pm and 8.00pm on approximately sixteen occasions per year. If necessary, additional hours worked will be paid.

Previous experience in an education background is desirable but candidates with experience in a legal background may also be suitable. The successful candidate will be expected to either hold the Level 3 accreditation in Clerking of School Governing Boards or be willing to study for the qualification.
