Langton Language Consortium
The Langton Language Centre is, currently, an independent Language Hub run from the Langton Language Centre based at Simon Langton Girls’ Grammar School, Canterbury, Kent.
The chair of the group is, currently, understood to be Mr David Stalley, Director of the Langton Language Centre.
The Consortium will be made up of schools and institutions in the Kent area and beyond through links with Kent University and Southampton University, which will constitute a Hub based in Kent and a satellite hub with schools outside this area.
The Consortium will contain a mix of schools and institutions which represent the full picture of the education panorama and will include primary schools through to secondary schools (state and independent as appropriate) and colleges and Universities. In this way the Consortium will be fully representative and promote its aims through all stages.
The crisis in Language learning is not exclusive to secondary schools and the inclusion of all stages of education will show the Consortium’s commitment to raising the profile throughout.
The Langton Language Consortium - a group of like-minded professionals in Language teaching across Kent and further afield (as far as Belfast) - was launched on the 11 November. Our Patron is Baroness Jean Coussins who spoke to the students on International Day in October. This is what she had to say about supporting the Consortium :
"I am delighted to be associated with this trailblazing initiative at Simon Langton Girls' Grammar School and the Langton Language Centre. Putting languages at the heart of the curriculum and the whole ethos of internationalism will give students a real cutting edge when it comes to their future life chances and choices, not to mention the fun and pleasure of learning about other cultures. An international mindset is vital for personal and national success, prosperity and influence in the 21st century and this Consortium will be a valuable template for others to follow. I will continue to do all I can through my parliamentary work to champion languages and to remove the barriers to learning.”
